dsc_0291Just a stone's throw from Stevensweert is Maasbracht, which has one of the biggest inner harbours in the Netherlands. The view of the harbour from the boulevard is splendid. Once in Maasbracht, you can visit the Maas- en Scheepvaartmuseum, the Claus Power Plant with its Lichtbaak information centre, the Leonardus Mill and the yellow marlstone tower of St. Gertrude's, built in the 14th century. If you enjoy nature, then you might consider visiting the extensive Linnerveld woods, or the Linnerweerd water meadows near the river village of Linne. There you will find the country estate of Ravenburg and Heysterum Castle. You can visit the hydro-electric power station, the weir with its footbridge and the fish ladder. The charming Belgian town of Maaseik is also within easy reach of Stevensweert. You simply take the ferry (for passengers and bicycles only) from Ohé en Laak to Ophoven in Belgium, from where it is only a short distance to Maaseik.
